What are the things to learn that makes life more pleasurable?

New Q & A iconA question I answered on Quora

Well, I’ll give you one tip from my side of the fence: Learn to ask big questions about life and especially your own life.

Why are you here? Is there something you came to discover at this time? Will you survive death – and what is death all about anyhow? Are we alone in the Universe? These big questions interest me and I’ve written a couple of books about it.

We can find pleasure in the latest gadget, the car we’ve just purchased, our wonderful home or our 9 to 5 job. But it is not just about these things. It is not just about following conventional wisdom; our religions or sciences without question either.

Step out of the sleep-walking bubble

We are here on a planet that is moving through space and time. We are part of the Milky Way galaxy. Common sense tells me the galaxy is teeming with life – we’ve yet to discover it is. I believe life is awesome and inevitable, a universal (and spiritual) force to be reckoned with. What do you believe?

I can’t get over how remarkable and intelligent life is on our own planet – it’s awesome! I’m talking about the flora and fauna generally. If we built say, a life-size bumble bee (or a butterfly), and got it to fly under its own volition, wouldn’t we consider it remarkable – and wouldn’t a lot of us want to buy one. Well maybe yes or no but it would interest us to see how far we have come with micro-technology. Nature is doing this kind of micro fine work as (excuse the pun) second nature – no big deal.

We’ll discover (well some of us already know) that life from other parts of our galaxy are visiting us – and have done for thousands of years. Check out Dr Stephen Greer or Bob Lazar – there’s a new movie about Lazar I’d recommend you see.

This should excite us and make life a much more pleasurable (and perhaps scary) experience – opening us up to new vistas.

Be one of us looking up at the stars

As Oscar Wilde said: “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”

So be one of us looking up at the stars.

That said, the simple things in life, such as a mug of tea and a biscuit (well more than one), does it for me – it helps to make my life more pleasurable.
