Three questions about zodiac signs

Q&A | 400x96 imageHave the signs of the zodiac always been the same?

A question I originally answered in Quora.

No not always. But in Western astrology the twelve zodiac signs (sidereal and tropical zodiacs) have been the same for at least two thousand years – and in the same order, which is also important. Three questions about zodiac signs

The signs (of the tropical zodiac – used in most Western astrology) are representational of an underlying theme for each 30 degree segment of a meaningful wheel. They contain a cyclic story set around the Earth’s seasons.

Their three point matrix, or building blocks, based upon the number 12, means that each sign is also beautifully unique in the overall arrangement.

If there was a 13th sign of the zodiac, what would it be?

A question I originally answered in Quora.

There can’t be a 13th sign for the simple fact the system is based upon the number 12 which can be divided by 2, 3, 4 and 6. As a prime number, 13 would not work.

It follows that astrology is also not dependent upon how many star constellations cross the ecliptic.

What are the rising signs for Virgo?

A question I originally answered in Quora.

The rising sign in a person’s birthchart is determined by the time and place they were born.

A Virgo Sun can therefore have any of the twelve signs rising – including the sign of Virgo.
