A Purpose or Calling in the Birth-chart is a question I responded to in Facebook.

Writer says, Hey everyone, I wanted to see if anyone had an idea of a “purpose” or “calling” in someone’s chart. I’ve recently had the idea of completely rerouting my career path because of my interests, but I’m having mixed feelings because I can’t seem to know 100% what I’m meant to do. Please help!

Hey look, one of the worst side effects of pop astrology is the belief that astrology can predict one’s chosen path or career in life.

As is the nature of pop astrology, this supposedly does it by looking at one’s star sign. There are recruiting companies on the web offering career advice off star signs… that’s how bad it is.

I’m old enough to have had at least eight career changes in my life. All very different from each other. It proves to me that astrology can’t predict what a person will do – unless that is they live in an isolated village and predictably will follow the line of work that their mother or father have done before them.

There are just too many options before most of us to anticipate another person’s direction of travel.

But…

But all my career changes, and indeed my purpose or calling in life, link back to giving expression to themes in my birth-chart.

Now you do have a very prominent theme in your chart. I’m referring to the T square. It needs to be incorporated into anything that you do – otherwise it probably will seem to block or sabotage your endeavours.

I’m referring of course to your Sun/Mercury square Moon square Uranus – also opposite to your Sun/Mercury.

I imagine (“imagine” bear in mind) a direction involving buildings, homelife and design – interior design let’s say. Or working somewhere in real estate, or involving legal matters and the home – home insurance let’s say. Venus & Jupiter are in Cancer supporting this direction, as is your Moon in Taurus, as is Uranus in 4th house. And Libra rising can play a part.

But also, be prepared for change – you’ll probably need variety (or incorporate variety) with that Uranus kicking around. There’s an entrepreneurial spirit in there too.

And I would say, take your time deciding what to do. That Mars/Saturn is driving with the brakes on and you need to be patient to avoid repeating mistakes.
