The Twelve Star Signs
Welcome to the twelve star signs and descriptions…
In Western (tropical) astrology, your star sign will be the sign that the Sun was passing through at the date of your birth.
Of course, we need to keep in mind that the Sun doesn’t move around us, it’s the other way around. It is us going around it, together with the pull of the Moon, that is marking out our seasons and year.
And, in context, the tropical zodiac signs begin in Aries at the Spring Equinox. Moving around, Cancer begins at our Summer Solstice, Libra begins at the Autumn Equinox and Capricorn begins at our Winter Solstice.
You’ll note there is only one star involved in this arrangement; and it is our Sun – no constellations!

Note, Dates can vary a bit from year to year

Libra: Sep 23 – Oct 22 Scorpio: Oct 23 – Nov 21 Sagittarius: Nov 22 – Dec 20 Capricorn: Dec 21 – Jan 19 Aquarius: Jan 20 – Feb 18 Pisces: Feb 19 – Mar 20 |
Keep this in mind…
In reading your star sign keep in mind that this can only ever provide a useful but incomplete overview of what makes you tick.
It takes no account of the sign your Moon is in – which is very important in the scheme of things. Nor for that matter what signs the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are in… in the configuration that occurred at the moment and place of your birth.
Astrologers may also include further components such asteroids and some of the major stars into this configuration too.

And, for that matter, keep in mind that all 12 of the zodiac signs will be represented in your natal makeup. This is why when reading through your star sign I use the term “typical.” You will only be typical of your sign if other factors, such as the position of your planets, support it.
To better understand yourself, through astrology, you need to get hold of your birth-chart. You will find websites that offer this service – some are for free too. I assure you this will be an adventure – certainly a bigger adventure than just relying on what sign the Sun was in when you were born.
I hope what you find here will help you in further understanding who you are. If you get really keen to learn more, consider getting hold of my book, Learn to Read Your Birthchart in 5 Steps to guide you through.
