Cancer Star Sign
If you were born between June 21st and July 22nd you were born when the Sun was passing through the sign of Cancer.
This sign is represented by the Crab. Let’s think on the crab; it has a tough outer shell to protect its inner vulnerability – and to which it will retreat into if it needs to escape, or it will bury itself under a rock or in the sand. The crab moves sideways, instead of head on – and does its best to avoid confrontation. But if threatened and it gets its claws into you, it won’t let go – even at the risk of losing a claw.
As a typical Cancerian you’ll need to put down roots. You’ll have a powerful need for familiarity, a sense of place, a need to feel at-home in your environment and in yourself. You need this protection.
Imagine for a moment the pioneers and settlers of the old Wild West. It took decisive Aries courage for people to up and venture into that wilderness. On arrival, deciding on a plot of land to settle and build a house a farm, was a Taurean phase.
Discovering their environment, what resources they have, other settlers, their neighbours, on adjacent land, who they might link up with, was the Gemini phase.
Turning the land into one’s homeland, turning a house into a home, for starting or for an existing family, is the Cancer phase. It is that huge emotional link with where one is at – “home is where the heart is.”
So being a typical Cancerian you’ll tend to form strong links with your home and or parental home. You’ll likely develop a strong interest in, or concern for your background, your heritage, your family tree. You can be quite nostalgic for the past.
In the round, you’ll tend to be sensitive person. You are impressionable, protective, caring and nurturing. You’ll tend to follow convention, endorsing established traditions, institutions, family and cultural codes of conduct.
That said, you’ll need to remember that being a Cancerian, which is a Water sign and ruled by the Moon, you may draw on hidden depths and be sensitive to other levels of experience, hidden from most of us, but completely natural to you.
Considering your Relationships
As a Cancerian you’ll tend to be maternal and protective of others – regardless of your gender.
You can be really nice and friendly to know. You may appear tough skinned, a hard negotiator, but underneath you can be shy and in need to be coaxed out of your shell – needing a lot of love and hugs. You’ll want to be needed, and it is important to you to be around people who help you to feel secure and loved.
So, you are inclined to place great importance on your emotional and material security. And with it, you’ll have a strong desire for creating a conventional happy marriage or partnership – with a likely need for raising a family.
Taking a look at your likely vocational interests
Your care, caution and need to follow clear codes of conduct can make you a good business person, and professional in whatever line of work you follow.
The caring professions (or caring for others at a business level, in say a family business, as for example a shop or restaurant) will tend to have a strong appeal to you. You’ll like getting into routines that add a sense of familiarity.
And remember, as a Cancerian you’ll need to feel “at home” in whatever vocation you pursue. This will be an important concern and influence on the career choice or choices you make.
And what about your challenges?
As a typical Cancerian you can be overly sensitive, touchy, over-emotional, and over-protective of yourself, and/or others who you care about. A tendency to be over-motherly regardless of your gender. This can link with an issue of trust in yourself and trust in others to follow their own path.
Like the crab, you are inclined to present a hard shell to the world while inside you can be quite timid, tending to avoid facing challenges in your life.
Cancerians often prefer to stay within their comfort zone, what they are familiar with. So, when real change, or facing a new situation, is called for, it can be a painful wrench that they approach with trepidation. You may need to be brave…
Worst case scenario, the Cancerian can be inclined to retreat from facing life and develop feelings of inferiority. If this is you, it is important for you to build up a sense of an inner home or worth. A belief in your own abilities and to value who you are.

A reminder…
I hope you have found the above comments helpful. But, here’s a reminder that your star sign can only ever provide a useful but very incomplete overview of what makes you tick.
To better understand yourself, through astrology, you need to get hold of your birth-chart.
Your birth-chart (or natal-chart), set up for the time, date and place of your birth, will include all the major planets, zodiac signs and astrological houses, to provide you with a huge amount of insight into your life’s potential.
You will find websites that offer this service – some are for free too. I assure you this will be an adventure – certainly a bigger adventure than just relying on what sign the Sun was in when you were born.
And note, this is why when reading through your star sign I use the term “typical.” It is because you will only be typical of your sign if other factors, such as the position of your planets, support it.
I wish you well with your adventure…
