Do you believe that astrology can predict people’s personalities and lives?
Full question: Do you believe that astrology can predict people’s personalities and lives as well as events using star charts and anecdotal evidence? A question I answered on Quora.
Oh, this is a touchy subject area…
I am an astrologer and I’m going to say something that might sound controversial.
I don’t believe in using astrology for prediction purposes! I don’t believe it is the best use for it.
What I mean by prediction is telling someone that this or that event will happen to them. I don’t buy into it. To me it is unethical and also unhelpful.
I will forecast trends and potential outcomes (from the birth-chart) to help a person better understand what they may be facing or working with as a current theme in their lives, but it is always given over to them as a choice for them to be aware of, and to make, in how they handle it.
So, to answer your question more directly. Astrology will/does provide “insight” (rather than predict) into a given person’s personality and life.
I will also add that as the birth-chart is a unique holistic document provided to each individual – in other words a one-off event – that anecdotal evidence does count for something. Not everything in life must needs be replicated before it is deemed to be real or of value. Anecdotal can be good and valuable.
