Aled Jones – Walking in The Air

Uploaded to YouTube by Aled Jones himself to boot – walking in the air of wonderland Wales.

The Pogues Featuring Kirsty MacColl – Fairytale Of New York (Official Video)

Kirsty, sadly killed in Mexico in 2000, was daughter of Ewan MacColl who I saw ‘live’ on more than one occasion in my folk music days.

Susan Boyle and Johnny Mathis – When a Child is Born

I’m just wondering who could not be moved by Boyle and Mathis singing this song – fabulous! I could probably listen to this anytime of the year.

Greg Lake – I Believe in Father Christmas

Lovely song, but another sad death (in 2016). Also check out a more recent version with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull on A Merry Secular Christmas post.

David Bowie & Bing Crosby – Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy

Staged but moving… My partner Annie had once spent a lunchbreak with David Bowie and a couple of ‘minders.’

East 17 – Stay Another Day (Official Music Video)

As commercial as it is, this is probably my favourite Christmas track of this selection. Here they are rough, tough and young – and wonderfully contrasted with this sensitive and moving song.

Chris de Burgh – A Spaceman Came Travelling

A bonus for Chris de Burgh fans – not certain about this one, what do you think? Na na!

And to really finish off:

Annie Locke’s O Holy Night – solo piano cover version of Adolphe Adam’s carol
