From sceptic to believer in the paranormal
Original question: What made you go from being skeptical to a believer in the paranormal? This was answered on Quora. From sceptic to believer in the paranormal
(Note there are two related questions in this post.)
Experience – or should I say experiences!
Seeing UFOs, ghosts and having experience of other paranormal phenomena, sort of forced my awakening.
For a time in my twenties I was an atheist and an existentialist. I’m still an atheist in terms of the orthodox view of god let’s say – I don’t follow or prescribe any particular religion even now. But I am closer to Eastern beliefs.
Seeing UFOs didn’t rock my atheist/existentialist position on the afterlife. Life visiting from elsewhere in our universe was a “so what!” Well that’s entirely possible without necessarily meaning much. All it takes is the means to get here. From sceptic to believer in the paranormal
Seeing ghosts, well that was a different matter. Was it for real or my state of mind? A few nails went in the coffin of my existentialist take on life. There had to be more to it than simple evolution.
This was also during the time when I read a couple of books, by Carl Jung (Memories, Dreams, Reflections) and Lyall Watson (Supernature), which helped to turn my life around – and pursue my own path through this amazing maze of life.

Have you ever seen something that made you question everything?
Bennett M. From sceptic to believer in the paranormal
I have seen quite a number of things, ghosts and UFOs, but one thing that made me begin to question everything was a driving incident.
I lost control of a car. My own fault for driving too fast.
I expected to be seriously hurt in the coming crash – particularly when I was heading towards a stone wall at possibly around 30/40 mph (while wearing no seatbelt at the time – it wasn’t a requirement back then).
Anyhow something or someone (my higher self/soul?) took control, turned the car away from the wall and gently parked it by the edge of the road as if I was heading in the opposite direction. Everything then switched off – without my involvement. From sceptic to believer in the paranormal
I wasn’t hurt, and the car was fine.
It was the cause for a lot of questioning and soul searching.
You’ll find a fuller version of the story in my book, Life and Death: Making Sense of It.
